Cool Crib: Modern Mansion Hidden Inside Gold Coast Greystone

Because I’m tired of all the negative housing news this week, I thought I’d chatter on a unique single family home that is for sale.  I don’t know how much it cost the owner to buy, nor do I know what they spent on renovations.

I just think this is a cool house.  Who would have thought such a modern home was behind the door of such a stately 1896 Greystone Gold Coast mansion?

Do you like (or hate) the funky bathroom sinks and the yellow kitchen?

  1. I don’t like the kitchen at all but the rst is cool.

  2. The kitchen is definitely unique for the Chicago market (where oak and granite still rule.)

  3. It just doesn’t fit with the rest of the interior. The rest of the house is very modern looking. The kitchen is kind of “retro modern”. You know what I mean. It looks like what the kitchen of the future was supposed to look like in from a 1950’s persepctive.

  5. Pat: Thanks. I didn’t bother looking up the last sale price. But since you brought it up: Did this owner renovate the house then? Because otherwise, there is no reason it should go up nearly $1.5 million in only 18 months.

I think the lack of parking will make this difficult to sell though.

Personally, I love the choice of the yellow cabinets in the kitchen. Very unique (but, as the comments here attest, those aren’t everyone’s cup of tea.)
