Crib Chatter is on Vacation This Week
Chatterers and lovers of Chicago housing:
It’s summer and it’s time to go on vacation.
Alas, due to COVID-19, I won’t be traveling to the Caribbean this year and, given the outbreaks in states along the Gulf Coast, which have lovely beaches, I won’t be traveling there either.
Looks like Galena for me.
See you in the middle of July.
Happy Summer-
Sabrina
Enjoy Galena! Great choice.
Try New England. Some nice beaches (cold water due to Labrador Current) and lobsters.
I go there all the time.
You’ll be coming back to a hottttt Chicago market.

How many years of presales did it take them to get 100/421? Only a sizzling market would accomplish that
Buy now or forever be priced out, guaranteed

I’m sure there will be some circular logic where in this is proof that the market is HAWT(tm)
Probably that this lack of inventory will drive up prices in the existing condo market of some other foolishness

There’s plenty of inventory over $1 million in the downtown. That doesn’t seem to be the case in the West Loop where there is still demand for this product and price point. But they’re not building buildings with 400+ units there either.

Remember, location, location, location.
Sabrina, did you end up going to Galena? If so how was it in terms of Covid? Was there enough open in terms of things to do and with adequate outdoor space to social distance adequately? Thinking of a quick trip there given such limited options right now.
“Sabrina, did you end up going to Galena?”
I didn’t end up going. Too many things are shut down for me to enjoy anything and I don’t want to eat indoors in restaurants.

Just got back. There was only one (crappy) restaurant that was shut down I even noticed and zero need to go indoors to eat or drink. All the usual mainstay places one tends to go were open. Lots of places are set up in the blocked off main street area to allow outdoor dining and drinking. It was actually quite a great trip, although the number of clueless fools not wearing masks or social distancing was disturbing when compared to Chicago.

Fantastic. Thanks for the update Sid V. I know a lot of towns are really trying to support the restaurants right now with expanded outdoor dining.
