“Demolished and Rebuilt” in The Barry at 3100 N. Sheridan in East Lakeview

This 3-bedroom in The Barry at 3100 N. Sheridan in East Lakeview came on the market in November 2021.

Built in 1925, The Barry has 65 condos.

It has door staff and an exercise room. There is no attached parking.

The listing for this unit says it was “demolished and rebuilt” by Lewbonne Development.

It says it is a “new and inspiring way to live in The Barry.”

The unit has an all new floor plan along with new electric, plumbing, metal std walls and tall French doors.

They opened the space which revealed the aggregate beamed ceilings and exposed brick exterior walls.

The listing says it was designed with an art collector in mind.

The living room has a marble gas fireplace and a Timothy Oulton crystal chandelier.

The unit has a separate dining room.

It has a den with an industrial Jon Sarriugartea 3-tier hand forged iron chandelier.

The kitchen has a 10 foot island that unites the kitchen and den.

The kitchen is custom with “craftsman built shou-sugi-ban treated solid wood cabinetry with brass hardware” marble counter tops, a Dacor range and 2 convection ovens, along with a professional style refrigerator and pantry.

There’s a built-in wine wall with industrial lighting.

The unit has 2 primary suites, at each end of the unit, and both are en suite. There’s also an attached office or third bedroom accessed via French doors.

It has some of the features buyers look for including central air and washer/dryer in the unit but no parking. It is rental in the neighborhood.

The listing says all of the furnishings are available to purchase.

This unit last sold in 2017 for $325,000 and has come back on the market at $1,035,750.

Is this the most unique property ever featured on Crib Chatter?

Colleen Berg at Berg Properties has the listing. See the pictures here.

Shocker that someone with such refined tastes would go belly up. Feels like you need a safe word if you go on a tour

“ It has a den with an industrial Jon Sarriugartea 3-tier hand forged iron chandelier.”

I believe this is out of Restoration Hardware

“ The kitchen is custom with “craftsman built shou-sugi-ban treated solid wood cabinetry”

This is HAWT(tm) now so blushing any wood w/ a torch qualifies

Pictures are terrible, too many pictures of things that don’t come with the space (but can be purchased separately)

At some point I think they just throw these random names out there to try to lend cachet.

Interesting place, but the iPhone photos do it no favors. Nor do the animal heads all over the walls.

Hard to see it going for anywhere near that price being in Lakeview, with no lake views and $1700-per-month HOAs.

  3. I’m confused. Is this supposed to be vintage, or loft? Having lived in Lakeview vintage, I’m a little shocked.

The whole place appears to be. Looks nice, but it’s hard to assess the unit itself all of that.

  5. Haunted House vibes.

I understand that the unit is in foreclosure, but still dumb of the bank to cheapen out on the photography.

  6. Way too opulent for me. And if there’s any natural light in the unit, the listing photos don’t show it. Living here would be like living in a wine cellar.

It’s on point for their Guesthouse ‘strategy’.

  9. It’s like a Restoration Hardware catalog….Nevertheless, the whole design and feel is soooo taste specific. Either buyers are going to love it or hate it. Unfortunately, finding a buyer who loves it at this price point, will be like finding a needle in a haystack.

Personally, I feel Restoration Hardware furniture is grossly overpriced for the quality.

  12. “It’s like a Restoration Hardware catalog”

It says that in the video link. Literally says you can live IN an RH gallery. Lol.

Wouldn’t you want to buy it with the furniture? I could see a bachelor or bachelorette buying this and just wanting to move in with everything already done.

  13. “This place looks creepy as fuck if you look past the gigantic light fixtures and out of place furniture”

Why is the furniture “out of place”?

I think they correctly captured the industrial aesthetic with the custom wood cabinets in the kitchen, the wood doors and French doors and then the mix of the RH furniture which is designed for this very look (at least in this collection).

I love dark paint. That’s a design style you have to be into, however.

This is certainly a unit that you simply can’t buy anywhere else in East Lakeview. It looks like it should be in the West Loop but it could find a buyer who likes the industrial look but really wants to be in East Lakeview.

Awesome. Thanks for the link anon(tfo). Love to see how they did this. The long 13 minute video is great.

Well- it IS one of two units on the floor, right?

So how many windows do the Barry units have? Quite a few.

I recommend watching the video to get a better idea.

LurkingReader, the listing says it has an industrial vibe now. But yes, it’s in a vintage building built in 1925.

Being on the second floor, with some benefit like a private deck, kills it for me out of the gate. You get all of the assessments of a high rise without the benefit of being above the noise and din of the city. Probably for someone who wants a doorman but is afraid of heights.

  19. How is anyone supposed to use the kitchen-dungeon? The only space to put a decent cutting board is on the island behind the range/wine wall. When you take out a heavy, very hot roast you have to carry around the wall. Not functional. It must belong to the girl I knew in college who wished she could live on alcohol and carrot sticks.

    Here unique = grotesque

At least it looked more spacious in the video

Or just put it on the range.

Not when its already full of cooking pots and your heat resistant chopping board.

  22. Very heavy and dark, to an extreme excess. So much wood wood wood. No garage parking, no outdoor living. Wildly high assessments. Just no. It’d be like living in a dungeon.

This isnt Industrial. Exposed joists, some “Custom” forged accents and old prints arent enough with the rest of the aesthetics.

I would call this design “Jame Gumb”

  25. I know that beautiful building well, and I was almost in tears when I viewed the listing photos.

They should have just left it alone. They’ve made the place completely hideous, and it will cost a small fortune to remove all the ugliness they’ve installed.

  26. Sabrina – it’s not one of two units on the entire floor. I’m assuming it’s one of the two units for that particular elevator. The building is far too large to have just two units per floor. Indeed, the building has 65 units, with about 12 floors, so that implies at least five per floor.

  28. WTF?

No, I mean, what the actual f***?

I actually kind of like the style, but why this unit in this building? Would have made more sense to lean into the vintage vibe that the place already had. Instead they over-improved to the point that they are guaranteed to lose money.

No one is going to pay $1M to live in this property. NO ONE.

  29. “One listing said 65 units but other listings said 48.”

Condo dec amended in 2012 sez 65. Some may be combined units, of course.

    There are 5 per floor, except Floors 1, with 4, and 14 (actually 13th & 14th), with 6. Based on %ages, the tiers go C, B, A, E, D, from largest to smallest.

One of the top floor units (14b) was a prior feature:

and sold in May-19 for $1,075,000.
