Not a steam punk fan, but the Gameroom looks pretty awesome (I’ll overlook the cord going to the pool table) The pool table alone is a showstopper.

As you well know, not everyone with $$ knows or cares enough about design to go through that.
This one’s a mixed bag. Parts are amazing, others not at all. Gameroom is pretty killer. I think I love the dining room? A place like this and at this price point probably shouldn’t have any shower curtains or shiplap.
A $4M home in Chicago and $5M home someplace warm sound better to me but I’m not wealthy, so what do I know.

I always think that if you can allocate $Xm to resi, you can allocate $1.5Xm just as easily, and the question comes down to: can you spend enough time at house #2 to justify that investment, or would it be better to just stay at a hotel wherever you choose to go?
Now, if X=100, then have 10 houses–doesn’t matter how little time you spend at each of them.

I like the outdoor space. Seems very private. They spent a lot on the nice fencing. It has trees and several terraces. Also like the water feature. More people should landscape with water.
I agree with you JohnnyU that I was expecting to see some pictures of the garage and/or the workshop space. Would be cool to see what a 5-car garage in this neighborhood looks like.

True but the basement is likely getting ripped out day one by 99% of the buyers at this price point.

Yep. For a lot of them I think hotels often feel cramped and not very exclusive. And sometimes they’re fully booked (even the insane suites or mult-bedroom units). And the best houses aren’t always available to rent short term. Most of them can be spontaneous and depart for somewhere and stay longer or shorter if things change. And, of course, it’s a part of their identity to have a “presence” where their second or third homes are. And many just don’t want to sleep or poop where other people do so. I know a guy with a TH in Aspen who’s used it maybe once a year since he built it like a decade ago. Only this past year did he breakdown and rent it out for Christmas week (I think it nearly paid for the year’s taxes), otherwise it sits empty.
Looks like someone spent some time at the Chicago House of Blues Foundation Room prior to building this space. Used to be a member there in my youth. They have these smaller private rooms that look quite similar to the game room.
Always said that when I moved to a big house that I’d create a room in similar fashion. They were great spaces for entertaining a small group. Looks like I forgot until today. Anyone want to help me convince the wife we need that at our house?
