Get Downtown Views from this Corner 2-Bedroom Loft: 6 S. Laflin in the West Loop

This corner 2-bedroom in SkyTech Lofts at 6 S. Laflin in the West Loop came on the market in August 2021.

6 S. Laflin was built in 2003 and has 150 units and attached parking garage.

It’s a doorman building and has a rooftop deck but no other amenities.

This loft is a northeast corner with views of the downtown skyline from a wall of windows.

It doesn’t have authentic loft features but does have the open floor plan with the kitchen/living and dining rooms as well as exposed duct work.

The listing says it was “remodeled to perfection.”

It has a “custom chef’s kitchen” with white cabinets, gold finishes and stainless steel appliances.

It has what appears to be stone counter tops and a kitchen island that seats four.

It’s a split floor plan with both bedrooms having windows.

There’s also a small den that you walk through to access the second bedroom.

The primary suite has a walk-in-closet and en suite bathroom.

There’s a 8×6 laundry room.

It has the features that buyers look for including central air, washer/dryer in the unit and rare 2-car garage parking is included.

The loft has a balcony off the living room with views east of downtown Chicago.

Listed in August 2021 at $699,000, it has been reduced $49,000 to $650,000.

The western edge of the West Loop used to be the more affordable part of the neighborhood.

Is it now a mature market?

Ginny Leamy and Ganapati Raman at Compass have the listing. See the pictures and floor plan here.

You can also see it in person at the Open House on Saturday, Sep 11, from 12 to 2 PM.

  1. Remodeled to perfection *Facepalm* Obvious flaws aside, bathroom shows dirty cabinets and dirt caked grout lines. Gross.

  2. Not 1900sf of living space, guessing the parking is included.

    Nice space for DINK’s.

Painting duct work black is terrible
The den location is not good if you have kids
Not enclosing the roof drain in the den?
    Track lighting

The Gold accents are a love/hate. Doesnt look bad here but I think its still a turn off to most

If the current owners did the remodel, they’re losing money. When will people learn that starter condo’s are a good way to lose money

Nah, *if* the floorplan measurements are accurate. They’re including the balcony, for sure, and then rounding up. Looks to me like the inside is ~1800, plus ~60 for the balcony, round up to 1900.

Could they have possibly built a more boring looking building?

I don’t disagree with your point, but do you really consider a $650k home in this location to be a “starter home”?

  5. There are some design choices that I wouldn’t have personally made, but this is a nice, large space in a decent location.

The dated baths are hurting the case that this is a $650K property, I think closer to $600 (and probably a bit under that) is more reasonable.

Here’s a (much smaller) 2/2 in the building with updated kitchen and baths for $399K.

  7. “The dated baths”

They know its an issue, hence no pix in the listing, only see them in the walkthrough.

    “Here’s a (much smaller) 2/2”

Price doesn’t include the one parking spot, and the Feature includes *2*.

    From the Feature listing:

    “Association Amenities: … Storage”

Does that mean there is storage in the building that one could rent? Or … what?

Found an old listing for a different unit that references an assigned storage space–if it’s at all sizable (5x5x8 or bigger), it should make it into every listing, as that’s a material amenity.

  8. Ha! I am guessing the realtor reads crib chatter or the seller does. I clicked just to see the disgusting baths referenced in earlier chatterati comments and there are currently no bath photos on Redfin.

I googled the address and a number of units in this building are for rent. While I would want that option as an owner, I would not buy in a building that allowed it unless it was seriously limited – – like you can rent your unit for one or two years at a time and then you have to sell or hold vacant for the next year (just to deter investors).

If I felt I absolutely had to be in this hideous building I would just rent. Let that down-payment money grow until you can buy something a bit nicer.

  9. The place is not bad. One bathroom is okay but the master bathroom needs work. Exterior of the building looks fine.

    Why not?

I have friends who have raised their 2 kids in space half this size in Manhattan. And they don’t even have a w/d in their unit. Have to go to the basement of the building.

Plenty of young people are having kids and staying in condos. Why do you think they’re building all those 3 and 4-bedroom units everywhere?

Desires have changed. Not everyone wants to live in the suburbs in a single family home.

That being said, the reason that townhomes are so popular is that they usually include some kind of basement or family room that is helpful.

But millions of people around the world live without that and survive just fine.

Chicago isn’t New York. Might as well compare it to Houston while your at it

Pretty obvious that you haven’t spent any significant time there

“ Plenty of young people are having kids and staying in condos. Why do you think they’re building all those 3 and 4-bedroom units everywhere?”

    This is a 2Br w/ a very small-ish 2nd bedroom. Has zero to do with a 3 or 4Br.

Has zero to do with this property. Why you feel the need you move the goalposts when ever you’re called out for a ridiculous statement is beyond me. Though I am sober. I mean wtf does a TH have to do with this property?

    Sober up
