Hidden Roscoe Village SFH with Basketball Court Returns: 3540 N. Ravenswood

This 6-bedroom contemporary single family home at 3540 N. Ravenswood in Roscoe Village came on the market in May 2018.

Long time readers will recognize it because we chattered about it several times in 2011 and 2012.

You can read our 2012 chatter here where we debated the pros and cons of having a basketball court.

If you recall, this house is on a corner double lot measuring 50×125.

It was built in 2007 just as the Great Recession was about to hit.

It has many unique features including 2 kitchens: one that is stainless steel and one that has white cabinets and a large island.

There are four en suite bedrooms and a large master suite.

It has 3 laundry areas.

It has a home theater and a small indoor swimming pool.

There’s a 4,000 square foot outdoor rooftop deck with a basketball court.

The house also has a rare 4-car attached heated garage.

Originally listed at $2,899,900 in May 2018, it has been reduced $200,900 to $2,699,000.

Is the basketball court still a factor 7 years later?

Marta Kazmierczak at BerkshireHathaway KoenigRubloff has the listing. See the pictures here.

  1. The Crain’s blurb upon the ’13 sale:

“Former Roscoe Village factory sells for $2.4 million

“A former industrial building turned six-bedroom home sold for $2.4 million last month, county records show. The 7,229-square-foot home on Ravenswood Avenue was a former factory that sits on half a city block, according to John Marks of development firm Mark IV Realty Group Inc. The home includes a theater room, outdoor basketball court, indoor pool and four-car heated garage, according to a listing. Records show a venture led by Mr. Marks and his son, George, paid $2.25 million in 2007 for the property. The buyer, Robert J. Newell, could not be reached for comment.”

Half a city block!!! In what city? Mildendo?

  2. I’ve always like this place because it is unique. I could careless about the b-ball court and pool though. I’d probably lay down sod and make it a really nice rooftop lawn.

What I don’t like is that it doesn’t really have many windows that see outward.

  3. If the parallel universe allows me to buy a house in the $2.5M price range, I’m heading north to one of my all time favorites in Lakewood/Balmoral:

  5. Mary, I used to walk by that house almost every day when I lived in Andersonville. In fact, I remember when the owners were renovating it. Definitely a favorite house of mine.
