Live in 2-Bedroom Authentic Loft in the Heart of the Loop: 20 N. State
This 2-bedroom loft in 20 N. State in the Loop came on the market in July 2021.
20 N. State was converted into loft condos during the housing boom in 2003.
It has 100 units and an exercise room.
There’s no parking with the building nor is there a doorman.
This loft is a northeast corner loft with a wall of windows facing over State Street.
The listing says it has 18 foot high unique concrete ceilings, but the prior listing says they were 15 feet.
This loft has new hardwood floors throughout.
It also has a “brand new” kitchen with new stainless steel appliances, what look like light wood cabinets and a kitchen island with what looks like granite counter tops throughout.
Some of these lofts have a unique interior “terrace” with a window. In this unit, the listing calls it a “bonus” room which could be a potential den, office or workout room (a space for your Peloton?).
It looks like one bedroom has a window and the second one has a window wall that looks into the bonus room.
It has the features buyers look for including central air and washer/dryer in the unit.
There is no parking but you are in the heart of a dense transit zone with subway lines and dozens of bus lines.
Listed at $364,000, that’s $40,000 over the 2017 sale.
Will all the upgrades pay off in a quick sale?
Brian Harbison at Kale Realty has the listing. See the pictures here.

Just terrible
This is one building that has always made me feel so sad every time I see pictures of a unit. No matter the unit it is the same feeling…sad. This unit is no different.
It’s interesting that they chose NOT to put in the white kitchen with quartz that has been popular for 2 or 3 years now. I wonder what was behind that decision?
Makes this unit feel a little more unique though.
And I love that separate little terrace room. I would definitely put a Peloton in there. It even has natural light.
Can’t think of a less desirable location either, and my office would be just down the street…

White quartz popular for 2-3 years? Hitting the box again?
Judging from the quality, cost
JohnnyU, why are you such a nonstop dick?
I don’t know why Sabrina hasn’t banned you from commenting.
Get some help.
By the way, a new food hall is opening in this building in September. Looks cool.
Will bring a lot of food choices to this neighborhood with a dozen stalls.
I hope they stay open on the weekends. Lol.

Yep, the white kitchen with quartz is what 100% of people have put in for the last 3+ years. Heck, probably 5+ years now.
Granite has been “out” for many years. No developers are using it, not even in apartments.
If you’re doing a kitchen renovation, an easy fix to modernize it is to just replace the counter tops with quartz. And paint your cabinets white.
So it’s surprising that when they did this renovation they didn’t go with the popular, trendy finishes. But I like seeing something different. And it definitely sets the product apart from every other condo.
Here’s a blog post from MSI (tile/stone distributer) from October 2016, so, yeah, at least 5 years:

I think that JU was suggesting that 2-3 years was a dramatic undersell of how long it has been popular, but if Sabrina had said “almost 10 years” the response may well have been the same.

Yes – White Quartz has been on trend at least 10 years. And “Expert” like Sabrina should know this basic information
TBF, you weren’t very clear.
Yeah maybe
Though it would be pretty obvious by now that IMO this “On Trend” bores me to tears. They we’re installing White Quartz & Waterfall edges 10+ years ago in my home town of Pigs Knuckle, Indiana /s
Maybe white kitchens are here to stay, like stainless steel appliances. White does make the room brighter.
NOw asking $349k.
