Love Views? A 2-Bedroom “Lower Penthouse” at 100 E. 14th in the South Loop

This 2-bedroom in 1400 Museum Park at 100 E. 14th Street in the South Loop recently came on the market.

Built in 2008, at the height of the housing bubble, 1400 Museum Park has 260 units and a parking garage.

It’s a full service building with a doorman and pool.

The listing for this 31st floor corner unit calls it a “lower penthouse.”

It has floor to ceiling windows facing south and west with city views.

The unit has been renovated since the 2018 sale.

If you want to see what it looked like prior to the reno, and have a Redfin account, you can see the old pictures here. It had the “standard” 2008 finishes including cherry cabinets and dark black and brown speckled granite counter tops.

See it here.

The kitchen has white Breaker solid wood cabinetry, stainless steel appliances, “exotic” granite counter tops along with a raised bar.

The listing says there is a marble wall “front to back” and marble feature wall in both bedrooms (is that what’s on the walls and columns?)

The master bathroom walls have oversized porcelain tiles and a 1′ linear border at eye level.

It has the features buyers look for including central air, washer/dryer in the unit and parking is available for extra.

If you love views, does this have the best of all worlds with the city, several sports teams and some peak of lake?

Timothy Rhoten at Red Carpet Investment Group has the listing. See the pictures here.

  2. Yikes! Other than the tasteful marble back splash, this place is freaking hideous! And the overuse of HDR by the photog is NOT helping!

  3. They turned the den (useful) into part of the entryway?? Really??

  4. Maybe the marble walls look better in person than they do in photos? The HDR is possibly making it look more “choppy” than it really is.

The heavily veined marble backsplash and countertops kind of clash with the marble walls (like mixing stripes and plaid).

The darker stain was better at hiding some of the flaws in the hardwood floor.

Did they actually open up the den, or is it just decorated differently?

It’s still a nice space, but I think they over-improved it. (and some of the improvements are debatable)

For discussion: Multi-level counters – yes or no? I prefer a single height with shorter bar stools myself.

  5. How many times have you heard: It’s not in stock, but you can order it. Well, you won’t hear that at Tile Outlet. At Tile Outlet, you’ll walk out the door with your purchase. Are you looking for marble? Tile outlet has the largest selection of marble at the low Tile Outlet Price. Tile Outlet. 2444 W. Fullerton in Chicago. Just 3 blocks west of the Kennedy Expressway.

Honey! Let’s get some more for the columns, OK?

  6. That’s not normal HDR photography. I don’t know what sort of special effects they’re doing, but it’s not pleasant.

  8. “Multi-level counters – yes or no?”

hell no. never understood this. i would so much rather have 1 large flat usable surface.

    “marble walls”

ha, and i thought it was a poor job of using reclaimed wood. that is some odd marble.

  10. “Did they actually open up the den, or is it just decorated differently?”

Listing compared to prior listing has the 7×7 additional room changed from Den to Foyer.
