The door to the 2d tower doesn’t even have a knob on it in the 3d walkthrough–so it appears likely that it is true private access to the roof. And then maybe the original concept was that the top floor would get a private half, and the other units would share the other half?

I think two modes of egress from the roof deck are required by code for new construction. Older units (built in the 1990s) may only have one but you cannot do new construction that way these days.

This place is pretty uninspiring. High end finishes don’t make up for lackluster design…for a million bucks it isn’t even a duplex with a separate family room or for crying out loud, a formal dining room. These folks need to put the crack pipe down. This thing may sell for something starting with an “8” and that buyer will not be getting a good deal, but I can see that happening. Only an idiot buys this at this price.

So, at first glance I didn’t notice, but how do you open the kitchen and bathroom cabinets? There are no pulls and the cabinets don’t seem to have the extra space that cabinets typically have when they are without pulls. I do like the look of cabinets without pulls, but I wonder how these are opened.
As for the people complaining about the layout, the Realtor states that it’s a “21st century layout.” Everyone here is behind the times it seems!

And I cant totally figure that out as one of the stairs looks like it opens into unit 1. $780M for Units 2 or 3 LOFL. There’s no way these guys could have done this before right? I used on Buckingham near Broadway for several years. As a comparison, 625 W. Buckingham Place #1 sold for $939K in 2013. That unit was extra wide with very nice finishes.
Buckingham is a very nice street, but being so close to Halsted and the unit is right on the alley….hell, no, for that price.

And that’s just on Buckingham. There’re a couple of developments in the 600/700 block of Aldine as well. Who is going to buy all these million-dollar condos in Boystown?
I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see property values go up (I live right down the street), but this is ridiculous.

Sad to hear a nice old two-flat was torn down for this monstrosity. The streets west of Broadway used to be nicer than east of Broadway because they hadn’t been tarnished by the construction of ugly four-plus-ones in the 1960s. Now both sides of Broadway are polluted.
Does the alderman only see dollar signs? Don’t they have a say over zoning and landmarks? The older homes in this neighborhood are rapidly becoming extinct and we won’t fully appreciate what we had until they’re gone and the developers have laughed their way to the bank.

Couple of things here: I don’t think we should talk about BC in terms of “the pill”, as a) there are myriad different pills used for BC and b) semi-permanent BC (IUD, injection, implant) is far more reliable and effective and these methods are beginning to supplant oral contraceptives.
Also, BC is absolutely central to women’s health, and refusing to cover it is essentially saying that you don’t want to provide health insurance for women.

Not sure if this is the same thing that you’re referencing, but it infuriates me whenever the Ds frame contraception in terms of other health issues (heavy periods, endometriosis, cystic acne). Yes, all of those things are alleviated by hormonal BC, but most women use BC to, you know, prevent pregnancy. AND THAT SHOULD BE COVERED BY INSURANCE PLANS THAT WOMEN ARE PAYING FOR.

Not a code word; I truly mean issues facing cities. (although republicans have hostility towards the standard code issues as well)

This is absolutely true, but the use of scare tactics in discussing the issue helps no one.
You’re better off not believing the crime stats as published. Chicago is well-known for “juking the stats” to make itself look better as a city. I believe it was Chicago magazine that highlighted the propensity of the PD to reclassify an obvious homicide victim as a different type of crime victim in order to keep stats low.
Also tie into that the fact there are fewer police on the street, replacement numbers aren’t doing much to fill the gap, and the lack of aggressive police work due to lawsuits means you can’t trust the stats. It’s really just smoke and mirrors to make people feel safe.

In Illinois, yes. I have seen my property taxes nearly double to pay for union members to get huge pensions. How is it not hateful towards the middle class to ask us to support these union members in this way?
Democrats work the system to try to garner sympathy for their voting block and make it seem OK for them to fleece those not in their voting block. If you don’t feel sorry for their voting block, you are labeled a bad person. I got into a fight with a friend not too long ago because I dared to say that I was sick of paying so much money for teachers’ pensions and her immediate argument was that teachers are poor and that they need that money, as though I don’t need my money? Then, she said that they have to pay for school supplies and I said that they are doing that voluntarily and she got angry and said she wasn’t discussing it anymore. I’ve been annoyed ever since and it’s actually hurt our friendship.
You need to separate real unions (skilled trades) Vs AFSME and their ilk.
