“The Fugitive House”- Being Famous Doesn’t Mean A Quick Sale: 336 W. Wisconsin in Lincoln Park
We last chattered about this 5-bedroom modern construction single family home at 336 W. Wisconsin in Lincoln Park in March 2012.

It’s one of the “movie houses” which got a lot of publicity because The Fugitive, with Harrison Ford, was filmed in it.
Yet 13 months later, it’s still on the market and has only had one price reduction.
If you recall, it was built in 1981 on a larger than average Chicago lot of 32×126, it has a lot of features you don’t normally find in single family homes including a sauna, an elevator and an indoor pool.
It also has a 3 car garage.
The kitchen has white cabinets and a stainless steel refrigerator.
There are 3 master suites.
Obviously being “The Fugitive House” hasn’t been a factor in selling this house.
What will it take to make a sale in 2012?

Is it weird that I could sort of get my head around paying $3.7M for a house (if I had the cash), but $50k in property taxes would always be a problem for me, particularly for a lot that’s only slightly larger than average?
Before anyone gets started, I’ll reiterate my comment from the prior chatter: “Listen to everyone going on about this and that. Please. Let’s see all the other 6,000 sq ft/2-story+ ceiling/3 car garage places in ELP/OTT in the $3 mm-ish range.”
The pool needs to go, and that space will need to be properly (i.e., bearing in mind that an indoor pool’s been sitting there all this time) redone, all of which will take some doing. But after that, it’s a pretty unique, awesome place that could comfortably serve as home base for a two-kid well-to-do family for 20-30 years.

Dude, stop this. We get it, but just let people go back and read what you said before.

Were it to sell for that, and were it to have an assessed value of $370,000, as it “should”, then, based on *my* tax bill for this year, it *should* have a tax bill about $10k *higher*.
why does the pool have to go?
I toured this house. Great location on a large lot. The problem is it straddles styles – its not traditional like so many of the new builds but its not modern (like that place on Sedgwick and Wisconsin that has been on / off the market for a few years) by today’s standards. Also, I am personally not a fan of the exterior. It would take a good amount of work to get the interior in line.
Famous is “great,” but there are still only so many buyers at this price point.

I wouldn’t even look at the inside due to the exterior.

Agree – pool can stay. My kids are going to love it. But I’m going to have the stairs removed. They look like they belong in a prison.

Just do it like the government. Print some more money in the basement when no one is paying attention. No harm no foul. You get what you want regardless of the expense!
Surprised by a lot of these negative comments. I think the house is awesome including the staircase and the pool. Only problem with the actual house design is the lack of doors. It doesn’t really strike me as a family house anyway. More of an ultrawealthy bachelor party pad.
I think a lot of you are picking on the house when what is actually upsetting you are some slightly odd decor choices.
the stairs would be amazing in a nice timber loft
i like the idea of the indoor pool but the segway from the dining room leaves a lot to be desired… the style of the dining room furniture/rug/etc take away from what could be a really nice feature to the right buyer.
if i could do anything in the entire place though i’d spend a grand on lighting updates, starting with the hollywood mirror lights
