The 1 bedrooms were originally around 500K then up to 700’s then up to 900’s. At 500K, I think it was reasonable, I would never pay 1 million to live in a smallish 1 bedroom in a tourist trap building

  2. How many square feet are they, this must be over $1,000 per sf!?!

And that is BELOW what Trump is asking today? No wonder he has barely sold any units in the last year and a half.

  4. How can they sell the unit before they have closed on it? Or, would the sell be contingent upon the original purchasers closing…sorry, I’m not that knowledgeable when it comes to flippers.

  5. I agree with you John. If Trump wasn’t so Greedy he would be close to 90% sold right now. He has a Great Product(Inside/Out) in a Fantastic Loaction with Amazing Views and when you have these three and its still not selling its ALWAYS THE PRICE…

  6. Sabrina, this should be a hot spot in Chicago in the coming years…

“January 7, 2008 – The soft opening of the hotel portion of the Trump Tower may have been pushed back because of permit problems, but it’s safe to start looking forward to the March opening of Sixteen, the upscale restaurant headed by chef Frank Brunacci and located on the 16th floor of Trump.

Time Out Chicago ran an article describing the new restaurant that will serve meals all day as having curved windows that span 30 feet high and a layered chandelier made from Swarovski crystals. The menu is being called New American with selections such as cilantro salad, quail breast and beet puree. A Champagne High tea service and amazing wine choices will round out the dining experience at Sixteen. Chef Brunacci’s impressive credentials include twenty years in Australia and England plus time with the Ritz Carlton hotels in Atlanta and New Orleans.

Construction on the 92 story tower has reached the 55th floor. Once the hotel suites finally open this spring, the lower level condos should close next. The condos located on the uppermost floors and the penthouse suites are scheduled to close sometime in 2009. The opening of Trump is one of the most anticipated of the crop of Downtown Chicago Condos and other neighborhood high-rises in 2008.”

  7. Trump Hotel Opening Set For January 30th
“January 9, 2008 – You can safely repack your bags and make reservations because Donald Trump has set January 30th as the new official date for the opening of his Trump Hotel. Numerous press releases on Wednesday confirmed that the 286 rooms in the hotel section of the tower will be ready for guests and hotel condo units that have been sold will close on that date.

The long sought after occupancy permit was delayed for several weeks because of fire code issues. Things as simple yet vital as caulking any opening or wiring passage between firewalls had to be completed, among dozens of other details. The permit granted by the Chicago Department of Buildings green lights the opening of hotel floors up to level 23, with four of those floors located below ground. When completed, the 92 story tower will house 486 condos and 339 hotel suites that vary in price from the upper $500,000 to over $9 million range. According to the sales center, about 75% of the units have been sold, but we’re left to guess whether those are hotel units or residential condos.

  8. Originally, Trump’s location was considered by those in the real estate industry to be a “B” location (for a luxury building.) Basically, it wasn’t on Lake Shore Drive and didn’t have direct on water views (except the River- which wasn’t an “A” location.)

It should really help that area but I don’t know if it will ever be the first choice for the truly rich buyers in the city. That still belongs to East Lake Shore Drive or the gold coast (at least for condos.)

I’m looking forward to the hotel opening. The restaurant is already getting a lot of buzz. It’ll be interesting to watch and see what happens.
