What Ever Happened to the Medill Twins? 2226 and 2230 W. Medill in Bucktown

These two new construction mansion houses at 2226 W. Medill and 2230 W. Medill in Bucktown were among the earliest foreclosure mansions we chattered about way back in January 2008.

See our January 2008 chatter and pictures here.

What happened to them?

Built at the same time and in the same architectural style, they were both sold at the peak of the market in 2006 for identical prices of $1.475 million.

Both went into distress.

2230 W. Medill was ultimately foreclosed and the bank resold it for 50% off the 2006 price in August 2009.

See it’s history below.

2230 W. Medill: 5 bedrooms, 4.5 baths, 2792 square feet, 2 car garage

  • Sold in July 2006 for $1.475 million
  • Was listed in January 2008 for $949,500
  • Bank owned in May 2009? Or was it November 2007? Records aren’t clear
  • Sold in August 2009 for $710,000

But for 2226 W. Medill there are few records. There is no record with the county that the bank owns it.

2226 W. Medill:

  • Sold in August 2006 for $1.475 million
  • Lis pendens in July 2007
  • ?????
  • It is not currently on the market.

  1. $710 was a really good price, assuming that there wasn’t any damage subsequent to the prior posting.

  2. That finishes in kitchen and bath are hideous, and the lowered price tag doesn’t change that. It’s a total do-over. The lack of taste level on some of these higher-end units is appalling.

  3. Er … not “units.” “Mansions.”

The inside needed a lot of refinishing—the pictures posted don’t do it justice, and the other rooms were actually really nice. However, the monstrous electrical pole right outside the master bedroom window is unchangeable so one would have to get used to it. Good luck to the new owners—don’t bother getting the radon tested because I already paid for it (see previous posting)!!

  6. 2226 – sold for $1.475m with 0 ($1m first/475k second)….ah those heady days.

There was actually an auction for 2226 and it sold to the Plaintiff for $893,250 on 03/11/08 but guess it’s still wrapped up in legal nonsense since the deed has not been issued/sale approved. Maybe the legal team are trying to figure out which moron approved 100% financing for $1.475m McMansion 100ft from I94.
