Crib Chatter is On Vacation This Week

I will attempt to join the rest of America out partying on the beach this week.

Palm trees, here I come.

The Chicago housing market remains red hot with properties going under contract within days of listing.

Even with the pandemic and the looting/rioting downtown, even downtown condos are back selling again.

I’m looking forward to covering all the interesting properties all summer long.

Be nice to each other while I’m away.

Sabrina

  1. True. Old Town had properties languish on the market all winter but now it is crazy. Unless the property is not priced correctly, they are going under contract within days. Two neighbors recently sold within two days of list at slightly above asking price. The monthly is so low at these prices, in both cases it was parents buying units for children who were already renting in the neighborhood. I guess the parent gets a pied a terre and the kid eventually gets a home when / if the parent transfers title eventually.

S: if you’re near Palm Beach area I highly rec Capt’n Charlie’s Reef Grill in a strip center between Hwy 1 & A1A in Juno Beach. A great divish bar/grill resembling northern WI joints prev. discussed here – pine walls w mounted sailfish, swordfish etc. Their unbelievably fresh swordfish kabob ruined that as my formerly favorite dish at Greek Islands here. Tho I’m no expert, their grits were the best I’ve ever eaten (I’ve had grits & shrimp for desert!)
Despite FL’s cavalier approach to limiting spread of the virus Capt’n Charlie’s spaced diners appropriately when I ate there a few times earlier this yr. Great popular spot w a spillover room a few doors west in same SC – I recommend eating there before 6 or after 8!

  4. Good morning chatterers! I have questions:

If I have a wood deck and I want to build a pergola, can the pergola be built out of composite decking or does it have to be wood? If I have rotted boards on the deck, can those boards be replaced with composite decking?

Decent wood is so hard to find (that’s what she said).

    Both will work.

“If I have rotted boards on the deck, can those boards be replaced with composite decking?”

Yes – Composite boards are thinner than dimensional lumber – you’ll need to shim the CB flush with the dop of your deck boards and color wont match

“Decent wood is so hard to find (that’s what she said)”

Its complete shit. Built my mom a 3 X 5 raised planter box this weekend and spent more time sifting thru shitty wood than building the thing.
