Skyline and Lake Views, Even From Your Tub: 33 W. Ontario in River North

This 3-bedroom in Millennium Centre at 33 W. Ontario in River North came on the market in March 2022.

Built in 2003, Millennium Centre has 363 units and an attached parking garage.

It’s a full amenity building with doorstaff, a clubhouse, exercise room, and outdoor pool.

This unit is on the 57th floor and the listing says it has “postcard” skyline and lake views from what appears to be 3 exposures.

It has a large entry foyer which opens into the living room with custom millwork and boxed ceiling along with heated marble floors.

The chef’s kitchen has what looks like gray cabinets with Wolf and Subzero appliances along with marble counter tops and a breakfast bar with seating for 3. It also has a pantry.

There’s a separate dining room which is open to the kitchen and has two walls of windows.

The unit has “spa-caliber” stone baths including the primary suite which has a double vanity, steam shower with body sprays, heated floors and a soaking jet tub with city views.

The primary suite also has 2 walk-in-closets.

This unit also has a family room and two other bedrooms.

There’s no outdoor space with the unit.

It has the features buyers look for including central air, washer/dryer in the unit and 2 attached garage spaces are included.

Listed in March 2022 for $1.9 million, it has been reduced $100,000 to $1.8 million.

In the recent Jennifer Lopez/Owen Wilson movie “Marry Me”, JLo’s character lives in a New York City penthouse. There’s a scene at night where she is in the tub with the city lights twinkling out the window below. (Sorry, I couldn’t find a picture of this scene to link to it.)

Is this primary suite tub a similar vibe?

Is this the perfect unit for those who want “views”?

Mario Greco and Olga Shtern at BerkshireHathaway HomeServices has the listing. See the pictures and floor plan here.

  1. Great layout. Design isn’t going to be very popular with the majority of buyers

Should mention the proximity to Eataly and the ability to get “real” San Marzano tomatoes, would have created a bidding war

  2. I am curious if anyone knows if the building common areas have been updated? It’s been quite a few years since I have been in this building but I remember the lobby feeling cramped with low ceilings, CROWDED and very low rent. I can’t imagine owning a $1.9MM condo in a building with 50% of the units are modest rentals and constantly turning and churning — way to transient for me.

    Dubious!

Also apparently (is/was) for rent for $9900: https://www.urbanrealestate.com/property/33-W-Ontario-Unit-57AB-Chicago-IL-60610-6W3ojpdojSXE.html

Eggspierience closed years ago sonies. I want to say it closed even pre-pandemic, in 2019.

And its sign is still a prominent feature on the building exterior?

Also, not sure that the comments are posting correctly today. Made a snarky one about this seller’s kitchen island stools (in this otherwise very nice and expensively furnished unit) early this morning and it didn’t post.

  9. Ah, I park here (until I sell my car I never drive this summer) as it’s only $200 vs. like $300+ in my building across the street. For spot owners there’s a gate section but it’s at the top of the ramp (not very convenient). There’s also only elevator access on one side (the north by the lobby).

Amenities are very sub par and the lobby is just okay. Love the layout and views from this unit, but it’s just way to expensive considering how cheap the other units in the building are imo.

Maybe. If it hasn’t been leased, it may still be there. Or it’s just an older picture.

  12. Eggsperience has been gone for a while as noted. I honestly didn’t mind it, decent for a hungover skillet. Guess it got hate because it was a chain and not as posh as Yolk?

The 9 Iron golf simulator spot has been bumpin though, it had some great deals during the pandemic. I believe they’ve opened several more locations since this one.

Taco Maya on the the Ohio side has been solid, go there often on Tuesdays. Working with them to sponsor some happy hours at our building, nice people. Oh and the extra spicy marg is solid.

On the Ohio corner though Circle K is going to open soon and likely not attract the best crowd. Could not imagine buying a $1M+ condo in a building with a Circle K tbh.

Based on streetview, it came down sometime after August 20219 and prior to June 2021.

    Uh, it’s just a picture.

Wonder what happened since this was said:

“MG does very good job on the pictures (lots and lots of high quality photos) and floorplans. he does earn every penny of his listing,
even with his Sq ft issue thing, he does go above and beyond for his listings!!!!!!!”

    https://cribchatter.com/?p=7706

btw, that house took 2 more years to sell, and finally went for $640k (Dec-11), and resold last year (Jun-21) for $1.15m

You are citing something that was said from 13 years ago???

    Come on.

Anyone who follows Chicago real estate knows that Mario Greco, who was one of the top agents in the city by sheer number of listings in the housing boom years, no longer is and hasn’t been for a long, long time. I heard he retired, but apparently he hasn’t. I always thought he was sitting on a Caribbean island somewhere sipping a cocktail after his incredible years during the housing boom.

  18. “So the broker is still using an old picture?”

The brokers have a portfolio of pictures of all the large buildings. They don’t take new pictures every time they have a listing in that building. It would cost too much money and isn’t very efficient. It’s similar to my collection of pictures. I don’t update them very often either but I try to when something dramatically changes. A new restaurant in the base really isn’t that much of a change.

  19. “They don’t take new pictures every time they have a listing in that building. It would cost too much money and isn’t very efficient.”

It’s laziness and incompetence. If I’m going to pay a broker a six figure commission, or even half that, I’d like the picture of my “PREMIER ULTRA-HIGH AMENITY BUILDING” to not show the sign of the long-shuttered crappy breakfast joint.

28 appearance on cc in 2009, one in 2008, and a quote from 2007:

“Chicago-based Rubloff agent Mario Greco said he returned from a three-week vacation a few weeks ago to find that his staff had sold nine homes, which he described as his busiest December ever. “Is it a sign of a hot spring, pent-up demand releasing, or an end-of-the year rush or all of the above? I think it’s all of the above,” he said.”

  28. Wow anon(tfo), can you be any more of an asshole? I didn’t think it was possible but here we are.

Yeah- he pretty much went away. I did think he retired. He had dozens of listings going at any given time in the peak and then he just went away. But would I blame him if he retired after all the money he made in the boom years? No.

Like I said, he was one of the top agents during the boom and then “poof”.

  31. So thinking about MG led me to thinking of another semi regular who did move on, Matt Garrison (MGG), and I came across this gem of a thread:

    https://cribchatter.com/?p=7363

Notwithstanding Matt’s bravado about selling in 30 days, it took so long to actually sell that no one updated. Took 16 months to sell (Dec-10), and closed at $273,500, including the assigned parking, down from $349,900 + parking.

Think Matt should buy HD a bottle of Glenfiddich, just on principle.

Honestly person(s) behind Sabrina. What is the point of doubling down on your assertion?

why not a response like with sq. footage or parking. i.e. You go off of the details in the listing and listings are not always 100% accurate.

So you said MG went away and retired and yet the data that Anon posted showed hNG was still active.

so who is CC supposed to believe?
anon assertion that MG was active every year given the postings or Sabrina assertion that MG retired

I come to CC for your postings on Chicago RE, but honestly I take more stock in what Gary / anon / Russ post in the comments and find your comments less cohesive and valuable

just my Old town 2 cents.

I didn’t say he DID retire. I said it seemed like he retired. His listings were everywhere in the boom. He had a big team like Jenny Ames does. Hundreds of posts on this site were Mario Greco listings. He used to comment here during the boom.

But then it all went “poof.” I thought for a while that he had retired and was on a Caribbean island. Obviously, I have done listings by him over that time but it was nothing compared to the boom years when he was one of the top agents, if not THE top agent, in the city. Again, I wouldn’t blame him if he DID retire after the money he made during the boom. Or maybe he went part-time and goes somewhere for the winter and comes to Chicago in the summer. I don’t know.

All I know is that he mostly went “poof” as far as the listing and CribChatter are concerned. Nothing wrong with it but these days, I’m actually surprised when I run across one of his listings.

Gary and anon are real estate agents. Russ is a mortgage broker. I am none of those things and have never been any of those things. I simply run a real estate blog.

I take great pride in the fact that this blog has never had any sponsorship or advertisement from the real estate industry.

Like I said, I heard Mario had retired but he might have just gone part-time. And maybe that changed in recent years, I don’t know. Sometimes people retire and then un-retire, right?

I’ve been running this blog for 15 years, a LOT of people’s lives have changed in that time. A new generation of people have been born during that time.

Good for him. Amazing. That’s not easy. There are always agents on these lists who I have never covered on Crib Chatter because they are the sales agent on a new building like the St. Regis and do millions in sales when closings happen. There are units under contract over $10 million in that building, for example.
