Looking for a Soundproof Movie Theater? A West Loop Loft: 411 S. Sangamon

This 4-bedroom penthouse loft at 411 S. Sangamon in the West Loop came on the market in March 2019.

This is an authentic brick and timber loft building with 78 units that was converted into condos in 1986.

This top floor loft has some unique features including a soundproof movie theater with a 120″ screen.

The master suite has a walk-in closet and a spa-like bathroom with heated floors and towel racks and motorized blinds.

The listing describes the kitchen as “gourmet.” It has custom white cabinets, quartzite counter tops and a Subzero 146 bottle wine refrigerator.

The spiral staircase leads to the second floor office and private rooftop deck which has a hot tub and grilling station.

It has features buyers look for including central air and washer/dryer in the unit.

The listing says there is one exterior parking space but it’s unclear if that’s with the building or somewhere nearby.

This loft hasn’t been on the market since 2003.

Is this a rare opportunity to own a true authentic loft space that’s as big as many single family homes?

Rafael Murillo at Compass has the listing. See the pictures here.

  1. I’m sure opening the windows to the sounds of the Eisenhower is lovely.

With the crushed red velvet bed in the soundproof movie theater, I’m guessing they weren’t watching “The Sound of Music.”

fantastic unit for the most part but overlooking the 290 and not having parking are major hurdles.

there is zero parking in this building so you have to rent in the open lot 1/2 a block away or an apartment building’s garage two blocks away, or just use Uber…

they should be more upfront about this in the listing as that is going to put off 90% of buyers. why waste everyone’s time?

the unit has some amazing features, especially the deck and the movie theater. the kitchen is decent although the cabinets are ikea.

  4. Where’s the soundproof movie theater? I only see a soundproof bedroom with a large screen TV. Google the term: “female copulatory vocalization” and you’ll understand the reason that this room was necessary.

Matt, you made me clutch my pearls there!!!

That screen is a bit too “large” to be comfortable watching any “adult” films on…one can only imagine the “money shot”

  6. Well…. my guess was going to be that the bachelor finally wants to Settle down. But then I saw the kids bedroom photo. Hmmmmmm….. whatever the case it’s a great loft that some wealthy bachelor will live. Or someone’s wife will demand a little subtle changes to the “movie” room.

Reminds me of that listing on the east coast with the sex dungeon that got all that press. Maybe the realtor can get this one to go viral. I’m calling this listing 50 shades of timber.

I loved loft living and, with a few simple changes, think that a small family could make this work.

  7. Lofts are cool and this loft is huge with a good layout.
Slight changes to one specific room and it could work for a family.
The parking issues are a problem for all. That hurts it’s premium pricing goal.

But whoever buys the unit knows that as they get off on the elevator the neighbors will smirk as they know that you bought the unit with the crazy sex dungeon. Did anyone actually buy that house out in PA? You know the one that got all the press with the similar “adult activty extras?”
