Re-Imagining an Open Loft: A 3-Bedroom at 400 N. Racine in the West Loop

This 3-bedroom loft at 400 N. Racine in the West Loop recently came on the market.

400 N. Racine was converted to condos in 1993 and has 33 units and gated outdoor parking.

This 2650 square foot one-floor loft has 13.5 foot ceilings and concrete floors.

The listing says it was custom designed by Moss Architects.

If you look at the prior listing in 2013, you will see that bedrooms and a bath were added through custom glass partitions and millwork.

There’s now a master suite with an en suite bathroom and walk-in-closet.

The loft has a new kitchen with stainless steel counter tops and high end appliances.

It has the features buyers look for including central air, washer/dryer in the unit and one gated outdoor parking space.

Will this mostly “new” loft sell quickly?

Philip Schwartz at @Properties has the listing. See the pictures here.

  1. Are antlers/horns the new ringed carpet?

Was ready to laugh at the price but really like what they’ve done with the place, not kid friendly but for empty nesters/no kids couple its pretty damn nice.

2 sets of tracks and no outdoor space are deal killers tho

  4. The exterior looks like a place, that in college, you would go to get your STD results…not that I would know that but…

  5. Antler light fixtures and lamps (even though the lamps will go) are a big no-no in my book in a loft like this. I could barely look at them long enough to click to the next photo!

  6. Bedroom or cubicle? Looks more like someone hired a co-working space architect who designed them a home.

And why did they not add a huge kitchen island. The was plenty of space to do so and very little counter space in the current design. Antlers don’t bother me that much but that was my epic fail on this loft.
